Richmond(1).jpgRichmond

Located to the south of Vancouver, Richmond has a long-established and varied Jewish community. Synagogues include The Bayit, and Beth Tikvah, as well as other Jewish organizations such as Chabad of Richmond, the Kehila Society, and Richmond Jewish Day School.

Surrey, North Delta, and White Rock

Connect Me In has an active presence in the area as well as successful partnerships with established Jewish groups such as the Chabad and the White Rock/South Surrey Jewish Community Centre, which has been providing a variety of programs for almost 30 years, including Friday night and High Holiday religious services and a weekly Hebrew school.

Ladner, Delta, and Tsawwassen

Like other cities in the area, Ladner, Delta, and Tsawwassen have seen a significant increase in Jewish population recently in addition to the Jews already living there. Connect Me In also runs events in the area, working together with a growing Jewish community.

  • Jewish Family Services Food Link

JFS's Jewish Food Link is available in Richmond and South Surrey-White Rock, providing healthy, nutritious food to low-income families at no cost. To qualify, households must have less than $40,000/year annual income. If you are interested or if you know someone who is, please contact Donna Riback, driback@jfsvancouver.ca or 604.637.3305. Connect Me In is proud to support this program by connecting families to JFS. The program is also supported by a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation.

Past Program Highlights

  • Langley Hebrew School

We were thrilled to have 17 children enrolled in this new six-week program designed to foster a love of Jewish culture and religion, Hebrew language acquisition, celebration of Israel, and an appreciation of Jewish art and music. The idea for the Langley Hebrew School came from local parents, who applied for and received a Connect Me In Community Engagement Grant from Jewish Federation to fund this program. A grant also supported a similar program in Squamish.

  • Sticky Shabbat at the Honeybee Centre

In partnership with PJ Library and the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, Connect Me In co-hosted this sweet Rosh Hashanah-themed event in Surrey. It was a great way for families to meet each other and enjoy a brief Shabbat celebration, and everyone took home delicious Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah treats.

  • Challah Bake in White Rock

This bake-and-share event gave 20 community members the opportunity to mix, knead and braid one challah to take home and one challah to share with another family. It was great way to meet new people and catch up with old friends.
