Israel Scholarships

Scholarships for Qualifying Programs in Israel

Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver is proud to offer grants to local teens and young adults to offset the cost of traveling to Israel for qualifying organized programs. Made possible through funds raised through the Jewish Community Foundation and Jewish Federation, grants aim to encourage participation in qualified programs in Israel and are available to applicants who either demonstrate financial need or live in part of the Lower Mainland or the province where they have little or no contact with other Jewish youth. Please note that due to CRA rules, we can only provide funds to programs in Israel that have a Canadian office where the funds can be sent.

Criteria

The scholarship program is designed to both help applicants in financial need participate in programs offered in Israel and to encourage applicants who due to their geographic location, have limited or no contact with other Jewish youth. First time trips to Israel are given priority. Previous family trips or childhood experiences living in Israel do not disqualify youth from applying but may limit the amount of funds received.

Financial aid is only provided for Jewish Federation approved programs. These programs must be MASA approved, and have a Canadian office, to be eligible. Approved trips must be a minimum of two weeks in Israel.

Scholarships range from $500 - $3,000 depending on financial need.

Applicants who are seeking funding for a university program, seminary or yeshiva must demonstrate that they have acquired 75% of the funding upfront and must commit to returning to Canada at the end of the program. Due to CRA rules, only certain post secondary institutions, seminaries or yeshivas will be eligible for funding.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Applicants are expected to contribute to the cost of the program. Scholarships are not awarded on a retroactive basis. If approved, the funds will be paid directly to the Canadian office of the program and not to the applicant.
